Dispossession and Eviction in Jerusalem: the cases and
stories of Sheikh Jarrah
The
report presents a comprehensive overview of the events leading up to the
eviction of four Palestinian families from the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of
Sheikh Jarrah. Following various agreements between the Jordanians, UNRWA,
and the 28 families a long series of legal disputes have emerged. The report
details the competing claims as they have been presented through the Israeli
courts and applies both a domestic and international legal analysis.
Additionally the report explores the humanitarian effects that previous and
pending home evictions carry within Sheikh Jarrah. Ultimately it concludes that
under both domestic and international law the Palestinian families of Sheikh
Jarrah have been denied several legal guarantees and rights amounting to
violations of both international human rights and humanitarian law.
Aggressive Urbanism: Urban
Planning and the Displacement of Palestinians within and from Occupied East
Jerusalem
Aggressive
Urbanism provides a detailed study of the use of urban planning as a political
tool intended to facilitate Israel’s occupation and annexation of East
Jerusalem. The report explores the use of home demolitions, details the
realities of ‘unlicensed construction’, and demonstrates how common planning
prerogatives fall within the overarching objective of achieving and maintaining
a ‘demographic balance’ intended to favour Jerusalem’s Jewish population. The
second part of the report continues to provide an international legal analysis
based on its earlier findings.
42 Years of Occupation: The Jerusalem File
The
Jerusalem File is a comprehensive study consisting of seven separate reports
which detail different challenges facing the Palestinian population in
Jerusalem. Topics including the legal status of East Jerusalem’s Palestinian
population, land confiscation and settlement development, forced displacement,
home demolitions and illegal construction, the status of the education system,
and the legal status of the annexation wall under international law are all
explored in great detail.
